Side-Access Without Compromise

	Bottle Retention Our SIDEKICK Cage combines the strong grip of our CHIMP Cage with the convenience of a side-access cage. How do we do this without compromising performance? Unique Design: The longer of the SIDEKICK’s two arms wraps more fully around the front of your bottle, preventing forward ejections. The shorter of the two arms grips the bottle lower and allows easy bottle removal from the side. Unique Shape: The four asymmetrical spring-loaded cage arms maintain excellent bottle retention while providing easy bottle removal. Same Attention to Detail: We used the same top hook and the bottle shelf from our world-famous GORILLA Cage to securely lock your bottle in place.

Accessibility A good side-access cage gives you easy access to your bottle. A great side access cage makes sure your bottle is still there when you need it. We increase access by designing a wider center opening, which permits the sides to flex for easy bottle withdrawal at a variety of angles We lowered the shorter of the two cage arms, allowing for easy bottle removal from that side We use an aggressive single-sided funnel, allowing for near horizontal bottle insertion and removal

Need even more grip? Pair our cages with our COOL SHOT or AQUA SHOT bottles and gain an additional 2-3 lb, of grip! Our bottles are designed to securely lock into XLAB cages. Our COOL SHOT bottle is the perfect complement to all of our cages. Insulated, light-reflective, and a secure sealing high flow nozzle make it a must-have on your daily rides & races. Our AQUA SHOT bottle is designed with racing in mind. Fluid level graduations printed on the side, self-sealing nozzle, and quick squeeze and drink action will have you turning to it on race day.

Behind The Design

Selecting a cage over the past century has typically been based on weight, color, style and price. But, if a cage’s main purpose is to securely store your bottle, shouldn’t that be the most important concern? We wanted to design the ultimate side access cage. Using matched high pressure, high temperature molds and high strength carbon fiber composite, we were able to create a cage that grips the bottle so well that it takes an 8 lb pull to extract the bottle. Every curve and thickness of the design has been optimized to ensure the cage retains the bottle over tough terrain.

Compatibility

One of the most important factors in bottle retention is the interface between cage and bottle.

To ensure the best possible fit with the SIDEKICK Cage, use a bottle that has a consistent groove all the way around it’s neck. It should be uniform and fit tightly against the SIDEKICK‘s top retaining hook. The bottle surface should be smooth without raised texture. For best results, use our auto-nozzle AQUA SHOT or our insulated COOL SHOT bottles.

Installation

Proper installation of the cage will provide you with years of trouble free use and ensure maximum performance.

Always use the proper tools to install your cages.
All XLAB carbon cages should be installed with a stainless steel washer inserted under the bolt head.
Bolts should be properly torqued. XLAB carbon cages should be tightened to 3.4 Nm (30-in-lb) of torque.

Care

As with all cycling accessories, our cages require regular care.

Leaving your bottle inserted in the cage for long periods of time can potentially deform and/or damage your bottle. Both of which can compromise bottle retention. We always recommend that you remove your bottles from their cages when not in use.
Friction between the cage and bottle is an important component in bottle retention. Residue build up, dirt, impact damage, and scaring can all effect how well your cage works. As with any cycling accessory, our cages should be regularly checked for damage and cleaned.
