Bottle Retention Your bottle cage has one job… to make certain your bottle is there when you need it. How do we do it? Grip vs weight. Adding extra layers of carbon fiber gives the GORILLA over 10 lb of bottle grip, with very little weight penalty. 10 lbs of grip force is 2x the amount found with a ‘standard’ carbon cage! More grip means fewer bottle ejections. Function vs form. The GORILLA Cage’s 6 arms are spring-loaded providing optimal bottle contact. The arm surfaces are flat and smooth, providing unmatched cage to bottle friction. More friction means fewer bottle ejections. Smart design. A robust bottom “shelf” provides support with heavy bottles. A reinforced top cage hook shaped to match the contours of your bottle, securely locking into the bottle’s neck. Properly supporting the bottle and locking it in place means fewer bottle ejections.

	Accessibility While you want a cage with an iron grip, you need to be able to easily insert or remove your bottle at any given time. The GORILLA does both. Precisely positioned flared cage opening: Quickens a bottle pull and helps guide the bottle back into the cage seamlessly. Keep focused on the road ahead. Piercing cage arms grip mid-bottle to help retention when bottle insertion happens. Too many times arms are too low which makes bottle insertion time-tasking, or too weak which causes bottles to ride up. Mounting slots – Having slots helps fine tune cage positioning ideal for your reaching arm angle.

Our COOL SHOT bottle is the perfect complement to all of our cages. Insulated, light-reflective, and a secure sealing high flow nozzle make it a must-have on your daily rides & races. Our AQUA SHOT bottle is designed with racing in mind. Fluid level graduations printed on the side, self-sealing nozzle, and quick squeeze and drink action will have you turning to it on race day. Behind The Design

Not your usual looking cage and for some very good reasons. We call this a straight pull cage, as the bottle can only really be extracted by pulling the bottle straight from the top of the cage itself. A cage with a 10 lb retention force is a major achievement and requires many proprietary design elements that we cannot disclose. We literally had to start with a clean sheet coupled with many iterations and extensive testing over several years. The result is the world’s best selling anti-launch cage, found on the majority of rear hydration systems.

Compatibility

One of the most important facts in bottle retention is the interface between cage and bottle.

To ensure the best possible fit with the GORILLA Cage, use a bottle that has a consistent groove all the way around its neck. It should be uniform and fit tightly against the GORILLA‘s top retaining hook. The bottle surface should be smooth without raised texture. For best results, use our auto-nozzle AQUA SHOT or our insulated COOL SHOT bottles.

Installation

Proper installation of the cage will provide you with years of trouble free use and ensure maximum performance.

Always use the proper tools to install your cages.
All XLAB carbon cages should be installed with a stainless steel washer inserted under the bolt head.
Bolts should be properly torqued. XLAB carbon cages should be tightened to 3.4 Nm (30-in-lb) of torque.
The screws included with the GORILLA Cage are for general frame mounting. When installing on any XLAB rear hydration system, the cage should be installed with the hardware provided with that system.

Care

As with all cycling accessories, our cages require regular care.

Leaving your bottle inserted in the cage for long periods of time can potentially deform and/or damage your bottle. Both of which can compromise bottle retention. We always recommend that you remove your bottles from their cages when not in use.
Friction between the cage and bottle is an important component in bottle retention. Residue build up, dirt, impact damage, and scaring can all effect how well your cage works. As with any cycling accessory, our cages should be regularly checked for damage and cleaned.
