Proper installation of the cage will provide you with years of trouble free use and ensure maximum performance.
- Always use the proper tools to install your cages.
- All XLAB carbon cages should be installed with a stainless steel washer inserted under the bolt head.
- Bolts should be properly torqued. XLAB carbon cages should be tightened to 3.4 Nm (30-in-lb) of torque.
In certain instances, you may need to utilize the larger slots on the spine of the cage. If so, use the included large washer when mounting onto the frame.
- Rinse and wash your bottle after every use. Sugary energy drink residue is a breeding ground for bacteria and microbes. Use a small amount of dish soap with warm water. Shake the bottle well and then squeeze water out through the valve. Next rinse thoroughly with cold water and stand the bottle upside down with the cap off to drain and dry.
- To get rid of any odor, mold or mildew, wash your bottle with baking soda and vinegar. Clean the bottle per instruction above. Next, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda into the bottle and half a cup of vinegar. Allow it to sit for 6-7 minutes and then scrub the inside with a bottle brush (available at most supermarkets). When clean, squirt the contents out through the valve. Next, thoroughly rinse the bottle and cap with fresh cold water and then rest upside down to dry.
As with all cycling accessories, our cages require regular care.
- Leaving your bottle inserted in the cage for long periods of time can potentially deform and/or damage your bottle. Both of which can compromise bottle retention. We always recommend that you remove your bottles from their cages when not in use.
- Friction between the cage and bottle is an important component in bottle retention. Residue build up, dirt, impact damage, and scaring can all effect how well your cage works. As with any cycling accessory, our cages should be regularly checked for damage and cleaned.
