	Bottle Retention The CHIMP Cage is the perfect balance of innovation and practicality Tenacious grip and effortless release. The CHIMP‘s 8 lb. of grip securely holds your bottle on even the roughest of roads, while its low profile design allows easy bottle removal when you need it. Aesthetics and function. The CHIMP‘s 6 arms are spring loaded to provide optimal bottle contact. The surface of the arms are flat and smooth, providing unmatched cage to bottle friction. More friction means fewer bottle ejections. Durability and lightweight materials. We include a robust bottle “shelf” to give heavy bottles the support they need. We added a reinforced top cage hook shaped to match the contours of your bottle and securely lock into the bottle’s neck. Properly supporting the bottle and locking it in place means fewer bottle ejections.

Accessibility The bottle security of a standard cage with the accessibility of a side access cage? It’s all in the design. Two downward-angled arms give you the benefit of a side access cage and the security of a standard cage. Righty or lefty? Large or small bike? Aero frame tubes or round frame tubes? The CHIMP is the perfect frame cage for all. A flared cage opening assists blind bottle access when you need to be focused on the road ahead. Mounting slots allow you to fine tune your cage positioning. A larger cage arm opening allows for easier bottle removal that matches your arm movement.

	Positioning Optimized for frame mounting, excels wherever installed. Frame: Originally designed as a frame cage with semi-access this cage outperforms all other side-access cages with bottle retention galore! Aerobar: Athletes wanting more grip on your aerobar can look no further than the CHIMP Cage. With slanted sides, it mirros the easy access of our TORPEDO Cage with a more fierce grip retention.

Need even more grip? Pair our cages with our COOL SHOT or AQUA SHOT bottles and gain an additional 2-3 lb, of grip! Our bottles are designed to securely lock into XLAB cages. Our COOL SHOT bottle is the perfect complement to all of our cages. Insulated, light-reflective, and a secure sealing high flow nozzle make it a must-have on your daily rides & races. Our AQUA SHOT bottle is designed with racing in mind. Fluid level graduations printed on the side, self-sealing nozzle, and quick squeeze and drink action will have you turning to it on race day.

Behind The Design

Most carbon cages are designed to be lightweight or match your bike’s looks, but our main priority was functionality, specifically easy access and secure grip. Experiencing bottle launching never results in a good ride as you are losing out on essential liquids and ultimately causing an obstacle in itself. There was a paramount need to design a solution to prevent this situation. The design would require plenty of surface area contact with the bottle, and the carbon fiber would have to be of the highest quality. We far exceeded our goal of an 8 lb calibrated grip force.

Compatibility

One of the most important facts in bottle retention is the interface between cage and bottle.

To ensure the best possible fit with the CHIMP Cage, use a bottle that has a consistent groove all the way around its neck. It should be uniform and fit tightly against the CHIMP‘s top retaining hook. The bottle surface should be smooth without raised texture. For best results, use our auto-nozzle AQUA SHOT or our insulated COOL SHOT bottles.

Installation

Proper installation of the cage will provide you with years of trouble free use and ensure maximum performance.

Always use the proper tools to install your cages.
All XLAB carbon cages should be installed with a stainless steel washer inserted under the bolt head
Bolts should be properly torqued. XLAB carbon cages should be tightened to 3.4 Nm (30-in-lb) of torque.
The screws included with the CHIMP Cage are for general frame mounting. When installing on an XLAB front system, please use the appropriate hardware specified to ensure a reliable and secure install.

Care

As with all cycling accessories, our cages require regular care.

Leaving your bottle inserted in the cage for long periods of time can potentially deform and/or damage your bottle. Both of which can compromise bottle retention. We always recommend that you remove your bottles from their cages when not in use.
Friction between the cage and bottle is an important component in bottle retention. Residue build up, dirt, impact damage, and scaring can all effect how well your cage works. As with any cycling accessory, our cages should be regularly checked for damage and cleaned.
